乾嘉学派乾嘉学派中国清代的学术流派。称汉学、朴学、考据学派。因其在乾隆、嘉庆两朝达于极盛,故名。惠栋、戴震、钱大昕、段玉裁、王念孙、王引之为其代表人物。其中有吴、皖二派之分:吴派创自惠周惕,成于惠栋;皖派创自江永,成于戴震。乾嘉汉学家继承古代经学家考据训诂的方法,加以条理发展,治学以经学为主,以汉儒经注为宗,学风平实、严谨,不尚空谈。以古音学为主要研究对象,通过古字古音以明古训,明古训然后明经,为其共同的学术主张。此风自清初顾炎武开其端,中经阎若璩、胡渭等人的推阐,至惠栋、戴震、钱大昕而张大其说,迄段玉裁、王念孙、王引之遂臻于极盛。这一学派首重音韵、文字、训诂之学,扩及史籍、诸子的校勘、辑佚、辨伪,留意金石、地理、天文、历法、数学、典章制度的考究。在诸经的校订疏解中,取得了超迈前代的成就。对古籍和史料的整理,亦有较大贡献。长于考据,这是清代汉学家朴实力学的传统。但清初汉学兴起之时,有浓厚的反理学内容及反民族压迫的思想,而考据只是借以通经致用的手段。顾炎武关注社会现实,反对理学,进而主张以经学去取代理学,目的就在于“经世致用”。顾氏之后,此风渐趋蜕变。段玉裁、王念孙、王引之以下,更是远离社会现实,止于训诂考据。因此,乾嘉学派是清初之学的倒退。清初,为确立封建专制的政治统治,在文化上也推行了极为酷烈的专制政策(见文字狱)。在文网罗织之下,学者无不噤若寒蝉。惟有埋头考据,才有立锥之地。然而就其为学的特色及其在各个领域所取得的学术成就言,乾嘉学派又是清初之学的发展。这一学派的形成,正是清初学者对宋明理学进行批判和总结的必然结果。清初之学,以博大为其特色。乾嘉汉学,则以专精而扬其帜。乾嘉学派诸学者,无论在经学、史学、音韵、文字、训诂,还是金石、地理、天文、历法、数学等方面,都取得了当时最好的成就。其平实、严谨的学风以及精湛的业绩,是值得肯定的。道光以后,清王朝摇摇欲坠,加以西方殖民主义势力的入侵,封建士大夫再不能不问社会的现实问题。于是,学术风气久经酝酿而发生了一个较大的变化,沉沦千余年的今文经学得以复兴。一时学者遂多舍弃文字训诂,而从事于“经邦济世”之学。同治、光绪之世,汉学于穷途末路之中,得俞樾、孙诒让诸人坚守壁垒,在古籍整理上同样做出了值得称道的成就。而章太炎重倡顾炎武“博学于文,行己有耻”之学,以伸张其政治主张,是汉学的一个光辉结束。
