电阻电阻resistance描述导体制约电流性能的物理量。根据欧姆定律，导体两端的电压U和通过导体的电流强度I成正比。由U和I的比值定义的R＝U/I称为导体的电阻，其单位为欧姆，简称欧（Ω），电阻的倒数G＝1/R称为电导，单位是西门子(S)。导体的电阻与其材料性质及形状、大小有关。对于由一定材料制成的横截面均匀的导体，其电阻R与长度l成正比，与横截面S成反比，即，比例常量ρ称为电阻率。电阻率的倒数称为电导率。电阻率和电导率都是表征材料导电性能的参量。银、铜、铝等金属的电阻率很小，适于做导线；铁铬铝、镍铬等合金的电阻率较大，适于做电炉、电阻器的电阻丝；熔凝石英的电阻率最大，是很好的绝缘材料。各种材料的电阻率都随温度变化。实验得出，在温度变化范围不大时，纯金属的电阻率随温度线性地增大，即ρ＝ρ0（1＋αt），式中ρ、ρ0分别是t℃和0℃的电阻率，α称为电阻的温度系数。多数金属的α≈0.4％。由于α比金属的线膨胀显著得多（温度升高1℃，金属长度只膨胀约0.001％），在考虑金属电阻随温度变化时，其长度l和截面积S的变化可略，故R＝R0(1＋αt)，式中和分别是金属导体在t℃和0℃的电阻。利用铂、铜制成的电阻温度计分别适用于－200～500℃和－50～150℃范围，有些合金如康铜（镍铜合金）和锰铜的电阻温度系数很小，常用以制作标准电阻。遵循欧姆定律的电阻叫做线性电阻，如金属和电解液（酸、碱、盐的水溶液）。另一些导电元件，如半导体二极管、隧道二级管等不遵从欧姆定律，电压电流关系是一条曲线，称为非线性电阻。通常仍定义其电阻为R＝U/I，但R不仅取决于元件的性质，还与工作点的位置(即电压、电流值)有关。对于某些金属、合金和化合物，当温度降到某一临界温度Tc时，电阻率会突然减小到无法测量，这就是超导电现象。
